A rare original vintage pendant light made in Budapest in the 1950s, in blue-grey enamel with its original glass and cage and a modified top: a characterful piece above a table, a counter or a kitchen island.
This lamp is truly rare: it is the first time I have found it complete with its original glass and cage! And in excellent condition.
What's more, this lamp has been modified on top: a customer had probably made a specific request, and it was produced to their precise specifications. So, apart from these, impossible to find!!
The modification replaces the small original top with the one on these lamps, because it had to connect to a cylindrical part placed above, with a strong workshop soul, which housed transformers. Most likely a very powerful light was needed, hence this solution. Some of these parts are still available; they can be a truly striking solution, but they require particular positioning and heights.
The design of this lamp is truly extraordinary, with a narrow neck that widens below almost into a half sphere. The glass and cage sit within the generous overhang. A real design piece!

The colour is certainly another absolute strength, in the classic shade that marks the whole production of this Budapest company.
It is a blue-grey that is very hard to capture in photos, because depending on the light source it leans more towards grey or blue. Naturally the enamel is original and very well preserved, considering these lamps date back to the 1950s. The top is black.
On the front, the company logo and technical notes stand out in white against the dark colour.
With a careful restoration that revives it while enhancing its patina, it fearlessly takes on any modern design lamp!
